I’m sure most people are interested in becoming a college graduate and land a great job in the job market. I’m doing research on how tough it is to get a job in our current economy being a college students in the class of 2009.
Many graduating seniors are finding it more difficult than expected to land an entry-level job after college. College students are only able to meet employers through their online websites by simply submitting their resume online.
According to National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers plan to hire 22% fewer graduates this spring.
Because of this recession economy college graduates are finding about 3 common options after college which are:
- Continue Going to College To Receive A Masters Degree
- Get a Full-Time Job in Your Field Before Graduating (This is what I would do.)
- Move Back To The Parents – Find a Entry-Level Job
I understand, that many graduating students will be in competition with people with on-job experience for many years. It’s now very tough out there and people have to put in more effort just to get a job than before.

What are the 3 common options!?
Having a lot of friends leaving Uni last year and 2009, it’s obvious to see that what makes finding a job for graduates even more difficult.
It’s the fact that current, well experienced workers are also being laid off, so all of a sudden, newly graduated students are up against those that not only have a degree, but also are years ahead of them in actual workplace experience.

Hi Ross,
I didn’t notice I left out those 3 options. I went back and added them in.
But yeah it’s pretty difficult for college graduates. I’d suggest start getting job experience early on so employers know you are serious about the industry.
