If you didn’t know what an IP Address is, it’s the url that a domain name.com is redirected too. It masks the IP address so you don’t have to remember numbers but remember instead yourdomain.com.
Every web server that’s on the internet has their own set of unique ip addresses. IP addresses may look like 192.165.1.125. There are an infinite amount of addresses that can be made. IP Addresses are almost like license plates. A License Plate is attached to a car. An IP Address is attached to a web server.
The Two Types of IP Addresses
There are two different types of IP Addresses.
- The Dedicated IP Address also known as Static IP. If you type in IP Address or .com, both will take you to the same place.
- Shared IP Address means multiple websites are sharing the same IP Address. You can test this out by typing in the IP Address if it doesn’t go to the exact website and instead to another page. It is sharing that IP address with multiple websites.
The ability of having dedicated IP addresses for each one of your domain names can become costly. If you wanted to save money you can have multiple domains on a shared IP address.
Why You Should Have a Dedicated IP Addresss
There are some situations were a dedicated IP address is needed. Such as Private SSL Certificate, Anonymous FTP and a few others.
If you have a website that you care about by having your own IP Address, you won’t be considered in the spamlists.
I believe, for SEO purposes if you plan on interlinking multiple micro/small websites together. You will need to have dedicated IP addresses.
In this case, if you have a website that’s getting over 1,000 unique visitors a month. It’s probably recommended you setup your website on a dedicated ip address.
