An FTP stands for File Transfer Protocol. It’s exactly what it stands for meaning File Transfer. It’s used to transfer files from your computer to the internet (your webserver).
Once you sign up for a web hosting company. You will have access to login to your FTP account for your domains. You can then upload files directly to each one of your domain names and they should be accessible through the address bar or internet.
The FTP program I recommend is FireZilla. It’s a completely free FTP program.
The left window is the files on your computer. The right window is your domain name’s files. You just simply drag and drop from left to right to upload files to your website.
You then go to yourdomain.com and you can view your files.
Index.html, index.php, index.htm are the default pages that will show up when visiting your .com. If you don’t have any of those files it will show a display of all the files instead of an html page.
