Link Building with Directory Submissions

Checkout other great articles on how to link build with directory submissions.

Web Directories were one of the first methods back in the day from the start of the internet to get backlinks to their websites. As the internet has been developed over time, majority of web directories have become surpassed by newer and more value backlink sources.

Low quality web directories are not worth submitting too but if they have a decent PR and decent amount of backlinks. I’m sure, it would be worth it. The two main important directories are Yahoo and DMOZ. Yahoo costs money yearly and DMOZ is pretty hard to get into.

The problem with web directory submissions is that they aren’t really made to drive traffic to your webpages because many people don’t surf their sites anymore to look for great websites. Everyone, now uses google search engine to search for all their things. They are still somewhat valuable because they can give a backlink to your website. Another problem is some of their pages many not even be spidered which means your backlink won’t show for that website.

  1. Is there a limit to how many directories I can submit to in a day?
There is no limit to how many you should submit in one day. Many people have many different answers in this regard. Many directories take time to even get spider-ed so it makes sense to do more then necessary at times because not all will go through. If you want to be in the safe side I would recommend no more then 200 per day.
  2. What is Web Directory Submissions?
Before the internet had search engines we had web directories and they are what you would call a phone book or yellow pages back in the day. Those are also now outdated today as we speak. Web Directories contain categories and links and descriptions about the website. You have to submit a listing into the directory to show up this practice is known as directory submission.
  3. Will I receive backlinks for every web directory I submit too?
All directories are different and you may not get a backlink from each directory and their are many reasons why. Directories can have limited staff to approve entries while many may also have strict entries. It can also depent on the type of website you are submitting.
  4. How Do I Know If I Got a Link?
Usually directories will sent you an email during the process. Some however may not send you a approved or rejected email.
  5. Will Web Directory Links Expire?
Links usually will not expire unless the web directory closes shop.
  6. Do Web Directories Help in Ranking Quickly?
Majority of time web directories will not help in increasing your ranking instantly. It takes time for the search engines to find the web directory pages with your links on them.
  7. Do people still submit to Web Directories?
There are many reports that lots of people don’t submit to web directories but at the same time there are many web directories that many people are submitting too.
